Welcome to the Goat Inn, Codicote.

 

The pub has been around since 1590 when it started life as a farmhouse but changed to it’s current use in the 18th century.

Formerly a Benskins* house, the Goat is now run by Brenda & Graham Dovey, land-persons since 1992 and as well as being one of the few ‘good old-fashioned pubs’ left in the UK, it is the centre of a thriving community and home to The Annual Harvest Festival, The Codicote Community Choir and many other community led activities.

Home cooked food is available all week at luchtime and in the evening until 7pm. Home cooked fish & chips on Thursday is a noted speciality.

The Goat also hosts a popular Open Mic session every other Thursday which has helped the careers of many a local musician including Lawrence Hill, ……. etc.

*Benskins was the pre-eminent brewery in Watford, and Hertfordshire’s biggest brewer until its acquisition by Ind Coope in 1957. While Benskins has not existed as an independent company for over half a century, the brand continues to be well known in north London and Hertfordshire, through being used as a brand name on many tied houses into the 1990s, and in some cases later.
